In the past few days I’ve been setting up a new blog to replace this one, which uses a different platform to WordPress. I’ve used Pixelpost instead as it offers better opportunities for photoblogging than WordPress, which is more journalistic, and since this blog is intended to be a photoblog, I made the switch. That said please find my new blog at LightFast Photography, as a sub-site to my main photography portfolio.

So this will be my last post on WordPress (for this blog anyway – I still am posting at Restaurant World Tour and The Wandering Brit) and I hope you continue to follow me on my new photoblog.

All the best

Dave

I’ll have to return here with my SLR

So today I was at a high school which is currently the home of my church, while we’re looking for a facility of our own.

I’ve been here quite a few times, but since starting this blog in the past few days, I thought I’d snap some photos.

Why? Well, as someone who never went through the American school system and someone who has only been in the States for a couple of years, I was kind of blown away by some of the sites here.

Firstly, there’s these golf carts everywhere in the halls. I’ve no idea if they are for the students or for teachers, but either way they are completely unnecessary in my opinion. It’s just another tool by which to reduce the effort one’s body must exert to perform a task. And all this in a person’s most active years. No wonder people lose the ability to walk by age 40.

Then, we have a trash can overflowingl with bags of McDonald’s, soda cans and sweet wrappers. I think that speaks for itself.

And then the piéce de résistance was another golf cart though this one was distinctly different from the others I had seen. This is because it belongs to the school’s police department.

It just baffles me that a) a school would employ full-time police officers and that b) they use a golf cart to get around the halls. It just screams laziness, obesity, paranoia and over-reaction, which is how much of the world perceives America. Can you blame them?

My question to you: is this all standard viewing in America’s high schools and what are your thoughts on it? Necessary and defendable or insane and pathetic?

LightFast Photography is a website I set up back in 2003 as an outlet for my new found love of photography. While my love for photography has not waned, my free time to do it has, so I’m not as active as I used to be, but I do still love to take and look at photography. So I set up this blog so that I can keep writing about photography and take the occasional snap on my iPhone when I don’t have the time to break out the full camera set.
Check out my website at www.lightfast.co.uk to get an idea of the kind of photography I like toying with.
