So today I was at a high school which is currently the home of my church, while we’re looking for a facility of our own.
I’ve been here quite a few times, but since starting this blog in the past few days, I thought I’d snap some photos.
Why? Well, as someone who never went through the American school system and someone who has only been in the States for a couple of years, I was kind of blown away by some of the sites here.
Firstly, there’s these golf carts everywhere in the halls. I’ve no idea if they are for the students or for teachers, but either way they are completely unnecessary in my opinion. It’s just another tool by which to reduce the effort one’s body must exert to perform a task. And all this in a person’s most active years. No wonder people lose the ability to walk by age 40.
Then, we have a trash can overflowingl with bags of McDonald’s, soda cans and sweet wrappers. I think that speaks for itself.
And then the piéce de résistance was another golf cart though this one was distinctly different from the others I had seen. This is because it belongs to the school’s police department.
It just baffles me that a) a school would employ full-time police officers and that b) they use a golf cart to get around the halls. It just screams laziness, obesity, paranoia and over-reaction, which is how much of the world perceives America. Can you blame them?
My question to you: is this all standard viewing in America’s high schools and what are your thoughts on it? Necessary and defendable or insane and pathetic?
